BC Basketball: Boston College – Dartmouth 88-70

The Eagles operated like a well-oiled machine this Saturday, catching a lead early and never losing steam to set up an 88-70 victory over Dartmouth. Coming off a two-game losing streak after a very hot start to their season, BC was able to pick back up where they left off in their matchup against the Big Green. Much of this success came from a rejuvenated offense. The Eagles’ shots fell right where they wanted them, which was no small feat considering their middle-of-the-pack shooting efficiency prior to this game. BC has completed 40 percent of its 3’s on the season, elevated by a 50 percent ratio on Saturday. And while a big chunk of this scoring came, to the surprise of no one, from sophomore Jerome Robinson, the Eagles were able to spread the ball around effectively to players such as Ty Graves, Jordan Chatman, and Ky Bowman.
The 1:00 game kicked off at Conte Forum with nothing but heat from both the excited crowd and the Eagles offense. Within the first four minutes of play, 6’7 sophomore AJ Turner had already knocked 5 points through, fueling the Eagles to a seven point lead early on. However, Robinson took the reins offensively the rest of the way. Robinson notched 21 more points by the end of the first half, taking advantage of some blown coverages in the Big Green’s defense as the game wore on. Following closely behind him in points scored was BC’s Ty Graves, who went from 0 points to 10 in a matter of minutes right before the first half wrapped up. Defensively, containing sophomore Evan Boudreaux was clearly a weak point for Boston College early on. Boudreaux is always a unique challenge for college defenses, standing as the fourth-highest scorer in the conference. However, his 17 points in the first half were the only thing keeping Dartmouth above water, and had to be addressed by Eagles coach Jim Christian during the halftime break.
Entering the second half, Boston College led Dartmouth 41-33 and felt confident it could continue to exploit the porous Dartmouth defense. This proved true, as BC was able to ride its lead into the wind, never letting Dartmouth catch up despite strong second half offensive performances from Dartmouth’s Boudreaux and Taylor Johnson. The Boston College defense was simply too dynamic thanks to some strong rebounding from Connor Tava and Bowman, a heavily anticipated addition to the Eagles this year. Bowman lived up to his expectations by following up a quiet start to the game with 6 points and 4 rebounds later on. Meanwhile, Jerome Robinson continued to do Jerome Robinson things, finishing the game with 35 points for the Eagles, 16 more than his average coming into Saturday’s matchup.
The final score was 88-70 Boston College, bringing the Eagles to a 4-3 record. The Eagles will be facing the Harvard Crimson this Wednesday at Conte Forum, looking to continue their recent offensive success and set up a potentially historic season.
